Julia was asked to share the international perspective on smart city innovation at NextGen’s July 2014 IntelligentCities Conference & Expo. The national event will focus on innovation, smart city technology and digitally enabled services, and featured speakers from across the UK. During her talk, Julia discussed the way in which two EU projects – Citadel on the Move and Open Transport Net – showcased smart city working in action by helping cities to harness the power of citizens and open data to creative innovative new solutions to make cities better places to work and live. ‘A city’s single greatest resource is its citizens,’ Julia argued. ‘By creating innovative new tools to help citizens open and use data, both Citadel on the Move and Open Transport Net are leading the way in forging the ‘human’ smart city of the future!'
